| Sumario: | In this article, the author examined the range of issues brought up by the statement of Timotheus of Miletus, a Greek musician and dithyrambic poet and an exponent of the "new music," about playing a many-stringed instrument, from the very existence of an eleven-stringed kithara at the end of the fifth century b.c. to the problem of the invention of extra strings by Timotheus. The author says that Timotheus' image of the awakening of the kitharis relies on the poetic past of this word. |
