      ab: A recent symposium held in June 2011, 'Placental Biomarkers and the Clinical Management of Pre-Eclampsia' reviewed the current incidence, challenges and outcomes associated with pre-eclampsia. Attracting over 250 delegates from all sectors of the perinatal professions, the sessions also looked at the potential role of new placental biomarkers to definitively 'rule in' and 'rule out' placental dysfunction in pregnant women with suspected pre-eclampsia before 35 weeks of pregnancy, particularly with reference to their impact on improved management of patients, outcomes, resources and costs.
