| Sumario: | The article focuses on the technique for determining Jewish population distribution in the U.S. metropolitan areas. The detailed results of the 1970 census, in which 1.6 million indicated Yiddish to be their mother tongue, has been beneficial in the development of a technique for estimating Jewish population distribution within metropolitan areas. With the incorporation of the 1970 census into the 1980 survey, with the equivalence of data on persons of Russian decent, it is ascertained that at least two-thirds of the Jewish population can trace its origin to Imperial Russia and that the settlement pattern in U.S. metropolitan areas resulted in the fusion of the various European Jewish strains.
