Method: Data of 365 standardized experimental hypnosis sessions were used where the hypnotic susceptibility of the participants was tested individually using the standard protocol of Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale (SHSS):A or SHSS:C. The interactional synchrony at the level of phenomenology was determined using the Dyadic Interactional Harmony (DIH) questionnaire, a paper and pencil test filled out by both hypnotist and subject. Results: All of the four subscales of DIH (Intimacy, Communion, Playfulness, and Tension) showed nonsignificant, close to zero, or very low correlations between the degree of synchrony and (1) the hypnotic susceptibility of the subject, (2) that of the hypnotist, or (3) the difference between the hypnotic susceptibility of the dyad. Only in case of the Communion subscale did a significant difference appear: in cases of highly susceptible individuals there was a higher agreement between the scores of hypnotist and subject (compared to mediums or lows). Conclusions: Since the hypnotist's hypnotizability scores, the scores obtained by the subjects, and the indicators of rapport are independent, rapport is not relevant to hypnotizability measurements and hypnotizability scales should be considered as reliable instruments for assessing hypnotic susceptibility. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: research tables/charts Journal Article ougenre: Article language: English refInfo: holdings: @attributes: islocal: N |
