Based on ethnographic fieldwork conducted between 2004 and 2006, this article focuses on the various strategies and activities of ‘Słubfurt’, a community-based NGO with the goal of redefining Słubice and Frankfurt(Oder) as a unified social space. In pursuing this goal, Słubfurt engages with European Union-wide social and political dynamics aimed at enhancing international cooperation and integration by de-emphasizing national borders and promoting a transnational sense of ‘European’ identity.
