One of those social skills is communication skill. With the skill training given at early ages, we can provide our students to be happier, more productive and efficient in the society they live in making them become skillful. For this reason, to know the factors that can be efficient upon our students' communication skills have become more of an issue. The purpose of this study is to reveal the factors that are efficient upon elementary school students' communication skills. In accordance with this purpose, Communication Skills Inventory developed by Ersanli and Balci (1998) was performed to 373 students studying at 6th, 7th and 8th class of two elementary schools in Ankara and Kirsehir provinces. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 15 statistical software. Analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, t-test for unrelated samples one-way analsis of variance (ANOVA)was used. AAt the end of the study, it has been conferred that the city where students live in, gender, pre-school education, parents' educational background and class level are all efficient upon elementary school students' communication skills. Moreover, whereas students' communication skills upgrade as the mark they took from Turkish lesson, the number of books they read, daily reading time increases, their communication skills downgrade as their daily television watching and using computer period increases. For such purposes; teachers should create learning environments where students can express themselves better in lessons., encourage students to read more books, children's pre-school education should start as early as it may possible and it is proposed to the families not to allow children spending much time on TV and computer. İnsan sosyal hayat içinde varlığını etkili bir şekilde devam ettirebilmesi için bir takım sosyal becerilere sahip olması gerekmektedir. Bu sosyal becerilerden birisi de iletişim becerisidir. Daha küçük yaşlardan itibaren verilecek beceri eğitimi ile öğrencilerimize iletişim becerileri kazandırarak içinde yaşadığı toplumda mutlu, üretken ve etkili bir insan olmasını sağlayabiliriz. Bunun için öğrencilerimizin iletişim becerileri üzerinde etkili olabilecek faktörlerin bilinmesi önem arz etmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı da ilköğretim öğrencilerinin iletişim becerileri üzerinde etkili olan faktörleri ortaya koymaktır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda Ersanlı ve Balcı (1998) tarafından geliştirilen "İletişim Becerileri Envanteri" Ankara ve Kırşehir'de bulunan iki ilköğretim okulunun 6., 7. ve 8. sınıflarında öğrenim gören 373 öğrenciye uygulanmıştır. Verilerin analizi SPSS 15 istatistik programı kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde; betimsel istatistik, ilişkisiz örneklemler için t-testi, tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda ilköğretim öğrencilerinin iletişim becerileri üzerinde öğrencilerin yaşadıkları ilin, cinsiyetin, okul öncesi eğitimin, anne-baba eğitim durumunun ve sınıf düzeyinin etkili olduğu görülmüştür. Ayrıca öğrencilerin, Türkçe dersinden aldıkları not, okudukları kitap sayısı, günlük kitap okuma süreleri arttıkça iletişim becerileri artarken günlük televizyon izleme ve bilgisayar kullanma süreleri arttıkça iletişim becerileri azalmaktadır.
