      ab: The purpose of this investigation was to use a wavelet analysis and pattern classification methods to compare the muscle activation patterns generated before versus after concentric and eccentric exercise protocols. Thirteen men (mean ± SD age = 23.7 ± 2.2 years) performed maximal concentric isokinetic, eccentric isokinetic, and isometric muscle actions of the dominant forearm flexors before (PRE) and immediately after (POST) exercise protocols that involved only concentric or eccentric muscle actions. Bipolar surface electromyographic (EMG) signals were detected from the biceps brachii during the PRE and POST muscle actions, processed with a wavelet analysis, and classified using paired pattern classification techniques. For the eccentric exercise protocol, the EMG intensity patterns could be classified into their respective PRE versus POST categories with accuracy rates of 92.3% , 53.8%, and 92.3% for the maximal concentric isokinetic, eccentric isokinetic, and isometric muscle actions, respectively. For the concentric exercise protocol, the accuracy rates for the classifications into the PRE versus POST conditions was 84.6% for the maximal concentric isokinetic, eccentric isokinetic, and isometric muscle actions.
