| Sumario: | In this article, the authors propose a framework to illustrate the dynamics of innovation processes related to design. More specifically, the authors discuss the differences between incremental and radical technological innovations. Beginning with the notion that design is concerned with the meaning of objects or artifacts, it is argued that while human-centered design is ideally suited for incremental innovation, it is not likely to lead to radical innovations. In addition, the authors address the question of whether design research can lead to radical product innovation. |
