| Sumario: | This article discusses the design of a model of social work for children's mental health. A model curriculum for the treatment of SED should include the following: the goals and objectives of the program, a task analysis that lists the specific skills the student will be able to perform on satisfactory completion of the training, a program of instruction and supervised practice designed to assist the student in developing those skills, and a system to evaluate the success of the program. Once goals are identified, a task analysis becomes easier and readily yields clusters of social work tasks. The task analysis in the proposed curriculum is based on various sources. The results of the task analysis derived from these sources represent a composite picture of both generalized and specialized skills whose combined presence is an essential component of a social work repertoire for services to SED children and adolescents. Four broad task areas have been identified that constitute the fundamental core of the social worker's tasks for practice with the SED population: (1) assessment skills, (2) interventions skills, (3) case management skills, and (4) critical thinking skills.
