Charles d'Orléans ordered the production of two manuscripts to contain the French and English poetry that he had composed before his release from captivity in the autumn of 1440. Affairs of state of the highest order were thus charged upon d'Orléans at an early age when, following the death of his parents and was formally recognized as head of his family. |
