The degeneration of writing is going to cause some learning problems. And this will affect an individual in his social and academic life. This study is made aiming to identify what is the level of usage and applicability of cursive italic handwriting today which has been implemented since 2005. With this new program implemented in 2005, cursive italic writing is decided to make use in the as the primary writing primary schools and to continue with it. In this research it is aimed to investigate What is the level, writing trends and capabilities of students' that began to use cursive italic writing in primary school (5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students).' The method of this research is descriptive analysis. The working group of the study is composed of 136 students studying in 2012-2013 educational year Kayseri province Talas town center. The data is collected from the scale named 'dikte metni, bitişik eğik yazı puanlama anahtarı ve doküman incelemesi' which was developed and tested as valid and reliable by (Coşkun, 2011). With the scores from the cursive italic writing score key, frequency spread and mean is calculated and data is collected. The research ended up the result that primary school 3rd and 4th grade students have the highest point of scores, 8th grade students have the least scores. Another result reached is as the class rate rises like 5th to 6th, the writing becomes degenerated and students began to write more like basic vertical letters. Yazma, ilköğretimde kazandırılmaya başlanan temel becerilerden biridir. Öğretimde yazının bozulması ve öğrenme güçlüklerinin doğmasına neden olur. Bu da bireyin sosyal yaşamda ve akademik hayatta olumsuz etkilenmesi sonucunu doğurur. Bu çalışma, 2005 yılından itibaren uygulamaya konan bitişik eğik yazının uygulanabilirliği ve bu günkü kullanım düzeyini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. 2005 yılında uygulamaya konulan yeni programla birlikte İlköğretim okullarında yazmaya el yazısı ile başlanması ve bu yazının kullanılmasına karar verilmiştir. Bu araştırmada el yazısı ile okuma-yazmaya başlamış öğrencilerin (5.6.7 ve 8.sınıf) bugünkü el yazısı veya düz yazı kullanma eğilimleri ve becerileri ne durumdadır? Sorusuna cevap aranacaktır. Yapılan araştırma betimsel bir durum saptaması niteliğindedir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2012-2013 öğretim yılında Kayseri ili Talaş İlçe merkezinde öğrenim gören 136 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Veriler (Coşkun, 2011) tarafından geliştirilen ve geçerlilik güvenilirliği test edilen "dikte metni, bitişik eğik yazı puanlama anahtarı ve doküman incelemesi" kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Bitişik eğik yazı puanlama anahtarı sonuçlarından frekans dağılımları ve ortalamaları hesaplanarak araştırma sonuçları elde edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, ilköğretim 3 ve 4. sınıfların bitişik eğik yazı puanlama anahtarına göre en yüksek ortalamaya, 8.sınıfların ise en düşük ortalamaya sahip olduğu görülmektedir.
