In Malaysia, a broad generic definition of 'learning disabilities' is adopted and this approach post challenges in providing support and services for those with this disabilities. Lack of standardized and culturally sensitive measurements and the limited number of professionals with specialized training to deal with identification of those with specific learning disabilities are other challenges faced in this country. This paper advocates a review of the current definitions of specific learning disabilities to one that can better guide planning and provision of appropriate services to the target group in Malaysia. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: Article src: R language: English refInfo: copyright: @attributes: flag: Y custom: Copyright of Pertanika Journal of Social Sciences & Humanities is the property of Universiti Putra Malaysia and its content may not be copied or emailed to multiple sites without the copyright holder's express written permission.
