Sumario:AIMS & OBJECTIVES: To study effectiveness of specific supplemental sensory stimuli as an adjunct to developmental support program in developmentally delayed infants with sensory processing dysfunction (SPD). METHODS: 28 identified infants aged 0 -6 months with SPD were included in the study. Assessment was done using Infant Toddler Sensory Profile (ITSP), International Battery for Neurological Assessment of Infants (INFANIB), & Modified GRIFFITHS scale. Intervention included supplemental specific sensory stimulation with Developmental Support Program (DSP). RESULTS: Statistical analysis showed improvement in low registration levels post intervention (pd” 0.001). The pre-test sensory seeking levels which were in the probable and definite difference (in both more and less than others areas- under and over responsiveness levels improved to typical performance range post intervention (pd” 0.001). The sensory sensitivity scores did not improve pre and post intervention. The sensation avoiding scores showed improvement to the typical performance range although not highly significantly (pd”0.05) The sensory processing abilities on comparison of both the groups showed that there were no significant differences noted in the improvement in sensory processing abilities pre and post intervention (pd”0.5) CONCLUSION: Specific supplemental stimulation was not significantly effective as an adjunct to DSP in treatment of infants with SPD.
