        Este artículo examina la contribución de Sofía Casanova al debate sobre 'el problema de España' en los años posteriores al desastre del 98. Teniendo en cuenta el papel de las relaciones de género en el análisis del pasado, presente y futuro de España en su obra de teatro La madeja (1913), este trabajo pone de manifiesto la perspectiva de esta escritora sobre las causas de la decadencia del país, los dilemas actuales y las preocupaciones relacionadas con el futuro y el difícil camino hacia la regeneración.
