ab: The article profiles Andrew Kidd, the publisher of Picador publishing company. His is not the big, dominating personality often associated with chief executives of big companies. "He may seem mild and self-effacing, but his judgement and views of books are very strongly held," says Peter Carson, Kidd's acknowledged editorial mentor, for whom he worked as assistant editor when Carson was editor-in-chief of publishing company Penguin. The son of an American businessman, Kidd attended the American School in London, to which he returned as a teacher after reading English literature and creative writing at the Brown University on Rhode Island. Kidd had an ambition to be a novelist. He joined a job as editorial assistant to Kate Jones at publishing company Hamish Hamilton. Kidd is a great believer in mentoring. INSET: Andrew Kidd CV.
