El artículo propone un diálogo entre el mundo del trabajo y del delito a partir de dos experiencias históricas forjadas en el tránsito del siglo XIX al XX. Primero, la adopción de las premisas criminológicas asociadas a la disciplina laboral y, segundo, la (re)producción de hábitos asalariados en los talleres carcelarios. Mediante la revisión de prensa y de la publicación policial capitalina, plantea que el actuar del ladrón ocasional fue expresivo de la fragilidad de la estructura laboral, situación que le permitió transitar entre ocupaciones formales y prácticas que bordearon la ilegalidad o que fueron abiertamente delincuenciales.
