In this article, we analyze the first four years of the Carabineros de Chile, emphasizing the concepts of efficiency and police unity as discursive support for the police reform. La fusión policial de 1927 efectuada mediante Decreto con Fuerza de Ley N°2.484, creó Carabineros de Chile, institución que hasta la actualidad se encarga de mantener el orden público y la seguridad en el territorio nacional. Esta nueva institucionalidad policial chilena fue creada bajo la concentración de poder e incremento de la represión política por Carlos Ibáñez del Campo, con ello los discursos basados en mejorar la acción policial pasaron a segundo plano en relación a las urgencias políticas del periodo. Se revisarán las condiciones de los primeros cuatro años de funcionamiento de Carabineros, atendiendo a componentes de eficiencia y unidad policial que fueron el sustento discursivo de la reforma.
