In this present article I propose to analyze a series of diagnoses that incorporated among their main concerns the understanding of those changes in delinquency. To do the above mentioned, I considered a group of texts developed in controlled and academic settings that provided an account of the mutations of crimes through different focus and emphases. Among those texts, I resorted mainly to the ones linked to the spaces of deprivation of liberty and the Montevideo Police.
The work allows us to verify the importance which was attributed to the changes in the world of crime, understand its growth at that time and how they organized strategies to improve the effectiveness of crime control. |

En las dos primeras décadas del siglo XX convergieron un conjunto de miradas sobre la criminalidad montevideana enmarcadas en lo que se destacó como un acelerado crecimiento del delito. Como parte del fenómeno fue denunciada la aparición de nuevas modalidades de delincuencia frecuentemente identificadas por su carácter profesional. En el artículo me propongo analizar una serie de diagnósticos que incorporaron entre sus principales preocupaciones la comprensión de los cambios delictivos. Para ello consideré un grupo de textos desarrollados desde ámbitos académicos e instituciones de control que con diferentes énfasis dieron cuenta de las mutaciones del crimen. Entre estos últimos recurrí a la producción vinculada a los espacios de privación de libertad y a la policía de Montevideo. El trabajo permite constatar la importancia atribuida a los cambios en el mundo del delito para entender su crecimiento y para organizar estrategias que posibiliten mejorar la eficacia en su control.
