Este artículo analiza la evolución financiera de la Caja de Seguro Obrero (CSO) entre 1925 y 1952. Los principales hallazgos son que: 1) la Caja nunca tuvo un año con déficits, aunque llegó a momentos de importantes dificultades financieras; 2) siempre fue mucho mayor el gasto en salud que en otros beneficios como las pensiones; y 3) los aportes de los empleadores siempre fueron el principal origen de los ingresos. Además, este trabajo contribuye con la construcción de las primeras series con las finanzas de la principal institución de seguridad social entre 1925 y 1980.
