| Sumario: | This article explores the historiographical and educational rationale behind Jewish historian Jacob Katz's scholarly-pedagogic conception of educational history and describes his attempts to influence the formation of a national identity among Israeli teenagers through his textbooks. This article also seeks to address the following questions: Why, according to Katz, should young people be taught history? What is the relation between Katz's views on educational history and his views on academic history? Finally, how do Katz's views on educational history compare with other dominant Israeli perspectives over the past 50 years?
