| Sumario: | Competency-based learning modules can be employed for physical therapist training and performance improvement. The ultimate goal of competency-based learning in acute care practice is to enhance the quality of patient care. The objective of this article is to present a learning module and competency tool for the interpretation of laboratory values in the acute care setting. The module was created to help physical therapists understand the importance of recognizing abnormal values and determine whether activity is contraindicated or may continue with modifications. Methods for implementation, strengths and weaknesses of the competency assessment are presented. This module and competency describes one approach to assure the physical therapist has the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate in the challenging acute care environment. |
