Sumario:The demand for constant emergency preparedness in our nation's hospitals requires the development of a positive work environment for staff to accomplish their mission. This article describes 3 emergency department staffs' desired future for creating a healthy workplace. Content analysis was used to derive the 7 key components of a healthy emergency department workplace. They are as follows: (1) excellence in patient care, (2) excellence in patient care processes and systems, (3) workable and safe facility environment, (4) interprofessional relationships and collaboration, (5) educational development, (6) teamwork behavioral norms, and (7) effective provider staffing systems. These findings may be used by emergency department leaders to enhance their patient care workplaces.
