      ab: The process of health education has shifted from unplanned, fragmented, incidental delivery of information to planned, comprehensive programs based on known teaching/learning strategies. This change, requiring educators to use a variety of media, has seen a gradual increase in the use of computer programs in diabetes care and education. However, as an instructional method, computer-assisted instruction (CAI) is not suitable for all learners or for all content. This paper addresses the use of CAI in diabetes education with specific reference to common terminology, strategies used in CAI, expected learning outcomes, and advantages and disadvantages. Criteria useful in selecting CAI programs are described.
