| Sumario: | This study examines the effectiveness of an alternative approach to help student nurses to become more skilled as learners, inquirers and critical thinkers. Kolb's model of learning and problem solving (1974) was used as a framework to investigate student nurses' learning styles and evaluate the effects of a training programme in Learning How to Learn on their learning and problem solving abilities. The results indicate that student nurses do not generally show any preference for a particular learning style, and that there is no relationship between learning styles and learning effectiveness or the ability to solve problems. However, the data also suggest that training in Learning How to Learn can significantly improve the student nurses' performance in learning and problem solving. The implications of these findings for nurse education are discussed. |
