Summary:People with profound and multiple learning disabilities experience communication difficulties that can be a barrier to social inclusion, an important determinant of health, happiness and well-being. This article describes how intensive interaction enhanced communication and social inclusion for one young person with profound and multiple learning disabilities (Rosie) and the effect this had on her development, health and well-being. The article also briefly explains the background to intensive interaction, details technical aspects of how the approach was used with Rosie, the progress made through repetition as well as an account of some of the outcomes over a three-month period.
