Summary:Sharing behavior, as exhibited in a task similar to that used by Lane and Coon (1972), and performance on a conservation-of-liquid-quantity task were compared developmentally, using 20 children in each of 5 age groups between 4 and 8 years, to test the hypothesis that the understanding of conservation of liquid quantity precedes the appearance of sharing on the basis of equity. The results gave some support to this hypothesis.
