| Sumario: | The article presents the author's views on the end of the modern academy at the University of Chicago. The core values of the modern academy are discussed which are the incompatibility of conducting research for profit with the university's goals, the basic principles of the university that include freedom of research, and lack of discrimination in employment. Also explored are the need for universities in the U.S. to have their own free-inquiry convictions, diversity of viewpoint, anti-intellectualism, and the meaning of community in the corporate postmodern academy. |
