| Sumario: | Objective: To explore relationship between problem solving ability and autonomous learning readiness among nursing undergraduates and further investigate the mediating effect of academic self efficacy on the degree of readiness and problem solving ability in autonomous learning. Methods: A questionnaire survey was con-ducted among 429 undergraduate nursing students in a Medical University in Tianjin by self -- study Readiness Scale, academic self efficacy scale and problem solving questionnaire. Results: The score of autonomous learning readiness of nursing undergraduates was 149.98±15.73, academic self efficacy score was 76.26±8.16. The score of problem solving ability was 85.14±10.08. The degree of autonomous learning readiness of nursing undergraduates was positively related to academic self -- efficacy and problem -- solving ability (P<0.01), autonomous learning readiness had a direct impact on the improvement of problem -- solving ability, and academic self -- efficacy played a partial mediating role in the relationship between autonomous learning readiness and problem -- solving ability. Conclusions: Nursing educators should pay attention to the positive role of self -- efficacy in nursing students' learning, and make them more confident when they finish their studies.
