ab: Educational institutes need to prepare students for achieving higher level of knowledge and skills which can be instrumental for them to nurture capabilities for working efficiently outside the confines of academic environment. This study has been conducted to investigate the effect of teaching and learning environment (TLE) on the perceived education capabilities (EC) among the students of a public sector college in Lahore, Pakistan. A cross-sectional survey was conducted and the data were collected from 416 Bachelor of Science students, selected through stratified random sampling method. Multiple linear regression technique was used to analyze the relationship between TLE and EC. The findings indicated that TLE comprised of teaching for understanding, assessment, teacher–student interaction, coherence of curriculum, active learning, and relationship with other students explained (R = 0.896, p <.001) EC of the students. The findings of this study suggested that government should design coherent programs and arrange the proper trainings sessions for uplifting the pedagogical approaches and assessment techniques, so that it could help to stimulate the active learning environment for developing EC among students. Conceivably, the reforms in college education system should target the establishment of positive TLE.
