Recovery of Curvularia mold from a duodenoscope after reprocessing in accordance with the manufacturer's cleaning protocol.
• Curvularia was recovered from a duodenoscope despite following the manufacturer's cleaning protocol. • Manufacturer duodenoscope disinfection protocols may be inadequate to remove mold. • The 2018 Food and Drug Administration/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sampling/culturing guide may...

In 2018, the Food and Drug Administration/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revised protocols for surveillance sampling and cultures of duodenoscopes. We describe the recovery of the mold Curvularia from a duodenoscope processed according to the manufacturer's instructions using this revised sampling process. To our knowledge, this is the first time a mold has been recovered from a duodenoscope after following the Food and Drug Administration/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocol. This suggests that manufacturer's recommendation for scope reprocessing may be insufficient to adequately remove mold from these scopes. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: research tables/charts Journal Article ougenre: Article language: English refInfo: holdings: @attributes: islocal: N |
