Circulating tumour DNA testing is here - what pathologists need to know.

Recently updated guidelines indicate that molecular testing can be performed on circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) to rule in EGFR mutation in patients with lung adenocarcinoma who are treatment-naïve or showed progression on first- or secondgeneration tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Pathologists may be ask...

Pathologists may be asked to advise upon the suitability of ctDNA testing as an alternative to tissue-based testing and to discuss ctDNA test results in the context of tissue studies. An understanding of the rationale for ctDNA testing and its role in the molecular testing pathways is necessary for integration of this new technology into clinical practice.
