The central hypothesis that I propose in this study is that the category "sovereignty" is in Bodin a legal concept and not just a political concept or principle. Consequently, I maintain that his ontological vision starts from a legal perspective, from which the author affirms the constitutive character (I mean, previous and formal) of the sovereign power with respect to society and consequently its ontological priority. Me propongo en este trabajo dar cuenta del pensamiento del jurista francés Jean Bodin y su elaboración doctrinal sobre la noción de soberanía, clave para entender sus Seis Libros de la República, obra clásica del siglo XVI que tuvo una enorme influencia en el pensamiento filosófico-político posterior. La hipótesis central que planteo en este estudio es que la categoría de "soberanía" representa en Bodin un concepto jurídico y no solo un concepto o principio político.
