| Sumario: | Tumors of the central nervous system (CNS) are due to the abnormal growth of cells in the brain or spinal cord that can become malignant and spread by metastases. Gliomas are the most frequent malignant tumors of the CNS, characterized by their heterogeneity and invasiveness. The high lethality of gliomas is due, among other causes, to the low efficacy of current treatments. The few biomarkers effective for the classification, prognosis, and treatment of the various types of gliomas are a useful tool for their management. New markers are currently being sought to make a more accurate diagnosis and for their potential as therapeutic targets. In this review, we describe the traditional biomarkers and other biomarkers that could be used to improve the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of gliomas. |
