It discusses two major lines of debate relating to the nature of the Franco regime and to the issue of Spanish backwardness/modernization. The author's goal is to expose the weakness of the fascist and authoritarian paradigms and to set out an alternative characterization of the Spanish regime as a fascistized dictatorship.
