| Sumario: | Cultural safety teaching and learning addresses sensitive topics and controversial issues, but it is essential knowledge for healthcare students and professionals. In traditional classroom delivery, students may be required to challenge their own perceptions, which can be overwhelming. E-learning modules offer students a less confrontational environment for acquiring cultural safety skills and knowledge. Experienced cultural safety educators from Whitireia New Zealand developed an online cultural safety e-learning module to augment traditional teaching approaches. The module aligned with three learning outcomes and was tested internally and externally to address technical issues, content and suitability. On completion of the module, the participants had significantly improved their understanding of the cultural safety learning outcomes: understanding of what forms their own personal culture, understanding what cultural safety means and understanding what it means to provide culturally safe care. All participants responded positively to the module. Cultural safety online learning provides a safe and effective platform to explore the sensitive issues related to developing culturally safe healthcare practice. Flexible e-learning modules can support and augment cultural safety teaching and learning for students familiar with cultural safety and those meeting the concepts for the first time.
