The author has written that he has corresponded with Laughlin for more than several years before he met him. It was in August, 1995 that the author found his "Collected Poems," in the University of New Mexico student book store. In earlier years he had sent him several of the small books of poems which are now included in the large volume. Their association began as one between author and publisher.
