Description
Summary:Implementation of digital pathology is an added expense with very little externally validated evidence of costeffectiveness in a Canadian model. It does allow for data mining beyond what some pathologists may be aware of. It is a prerequisite to artificial intelligence, an exciting frontier for research. The evidence for why our limited public resources should currently be spent on expanding this technology into community hospitals is lacking. When planning for the investment in new technology, potentially cost-effective modalities such as in vivo and ex vivo microscopy should be considered.
