Sumario:The article focuses on the portrayal of female labor and femininity in the South Korean newsreel Taehan News during the early Park Chung Hee regime (1961–1979). It analyzes how the state utilized this media to construct a vision of women's roles through categories such as "servicewomen," "wise mothers, good wives," "beauty queens," and "working hands," emphasizing the rhetoric of beauty and care. The article argues that while female labor was essential for national modernization, it was simultaneously marginalized and framed as secondary, reinforcing traditional gender ideologies and hegemonic masculinity. The analysis highlights the contradictions in how women's contributions were recognized yet devalued, reflecting broader societal dynamics in 1960s Korea.
