Adjustable Stiffness AFO Enhances Gait Performance Compared To Traditional AFO In Individuals With Cerebral Palsy: 612...American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Annual Meeting, May 27-30, 2025, Atlanta, Georgia.

The article focuses on evaluating a novel adjustable stiffness ankle foot orthosis (a-AFO) designed for individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) to enhance walking performance and daily living tasks. In a study involving 11 participants aged 11 to 40, the a-AFO was compared to a traditional solid AFO (s...

ab: The article focuses on evaluating a novel adjustable stiffness ankle foot orthosis (a-AFO) designed for individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) to enhance walking performance and daily living tasks. In a study involving 11 participants aged 11 to 40, the a-AFO was compared to a traditional solid AFO (s-AFO) and no assistive device during various tasks. Results indicated that the a-AFO significantly improved ankle push-off power and kinematics while reducing muscle activity, suggesting its potential to enhance performance in daily activities. The findings highlight the importance of tailoring AFO designs to meet individual needs and task demands.
