| Summary: | This article discusses the field of perception and perceptual learning in educational practice. A problem of perception of crucial interest to the teacher is the development of form discrimination and recognition, for this aspect of development is believed to be related to the acquisition of skill in reading. The role of reinforcement in perceptual learning has long been controversial. Although it is generally agreed that reinforcement can have a powerful influence on perceptual structuring of inputs, the important question still remains whether perceptual structuring or the more effective use of sensory information can take place without any reinforcement. |
