| Sumario: | The article focuses on the role of computers in education. While schools are evaluating computers and software, few students are actually getting much education in computing, ac- cording to a report funded by the National Science Foundation and conducted by University of Minnesota researchers. Of more than 18,000 students studied, only a third said they had a computer terminal in school. Less than a fourth of the junior high and middle school students had used a computer terminal. In rural areas, the situation was worse only 12 percent had exposure to computers. Disadvantaged urban students were not much better off at 16 percent. The researchers found that racial inequities are diminishing, but female students and poor students are far less likely to have computer courses.
