Through the analysis of this corpus, the article proposes a critical reflection on the concepts of "Latin American Gothic" and "globalgothic" and their complex relationship with the postcolonial dynamic of tropicalization. Similarly, I argue that the novel performs a de-hierarchization akin to popular culture: by centering doubly marginalized territories, both in social terms and in literary studies, it disputes – from these margins – the polemics consecrated by the studia humanitatis. This contributes to the comic tone that is particularly noticeable amidst the traditional scenarios of horror.
