| Summary: | The article focuses on the Saint Paul Development Program. The development program of the Saint Paul Public Schools was developed for talented students in mathematics and science. It is an experimental program involving grouping as a technique for stimulating intellectual achievement. Essentially this involves enrichment and acceleration within the mathematics and science curriculum. The program was predicated on the following hypothesis: (1) brighter students tend to achieve at a higher scholastic level when grouped homogeneously; (2) success in the program can be predicted on the basis of the students' scholastic performance previous to their selection; (3) participation in the program will result in increased interest on the part of the student in the areas of mathematics and science; (4) facilities and resources for enrichment are available in the community; (5) competent teachers are available in the Saint Paul public secondary schools; and, (6) the success of a program such as this can be evaluated. |
