Sumario:This study examines the ability of third grade children from the Science Curriculum Improvement Study (SCIS) Elementary Science Program in Honolulu, Hawaii, to identify experimental variables and recognize change during an experiment. The immediate goals of the SCIS Elementary Science Program are to acquaint the child with specific examples of objects and organisms, to let him investigate examples of natural phenomena and to help him develop skills of manipulating equipment and recording data. SCIS children appear to be superior to non-SCIS children both in their ability to identify experimental variables and to recognize change.
