Sumario:The article focuses on the knowledge and use of medicinal plants by the Diaguita people, highlighting their ancestral value and potential integration with intercultural public health. It documents 23 native and cultivated species used to treat digestive, respiratory, inflammatory, and gynecological conditions, with women as the main transmitters of this knowledge. The historical Diaguita territory covers the Norte Chico region of Chile, where these practices remain active and adapt to contemporary contexts, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the importance of articulating traditional knowledge with modern science is emphasized for the safe and ethical management of these plants within inclusive health systems.
El artículo se centra en el conocimiento y uso de plantas medicinales por el pueblo diaguita, destacando su valor ancestral y su potencial integración con la salud pública intercultural. Se documentan 23 especies nativas y cultivadas empleadas para tratar afecciones digestivas, respiratorias, inflamatorias y ginecológicas, con las mujeres como principales transmisoras de este saber. El territorio histórico diaguita abarca el Norte Chico chileno, donde estas prácticas se mantienen vigentes y se adaptan a contextos contemporáneos, como durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Además, se subraya la importancia de articular el conocimiento tradicional con la ciencia moderna para un manejo seguro y ético de estas plantas en sistemas de salud inclusivos.
