Se documentan 23 especies nativas y cultivadas empleadas para tratar afecciones digestivas, respiratorias, inflamatorias y ginecológicas, con las mujeres como principales transmisoras de este saber. El territorio histórico diaguita abarca el Norte Chico chileno, donde estas prácticas se mantienen vigentes y se adaptan a contextos contemporáneos, como durante la pandemia de COVID-19.
