| Sumario: | The article focuses on the development and validation of the Elderly Health Status Assessment and Screening (EHSAS) tool, a culturally adapted, multidimensional screening instrument designed for community health workers (CHW) to identify older adults in rural India who may require specialist geriatric care. EHSAS addresses the impracticality of comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) by enabling efficient, under-12-minute screening across 12 health domains, with high negative predictive value to rule out those not needing referral. While promising for integration into primary care and alignment with the World Health Organization’s Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE) framework, the tool’s effectiveness depends on the availability of care pathways and workforce capacity to act on screening results. Further research is needed to validate EHSAS across diverse settings and assess its impact on health outcomes in LMICs.
