The practice analysis, done by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), produces the largest dataset of knowledge needed and tasks performed by practicing social workers. Analyses of these data support ending specialization of social work graduate education based on practice method. Review of the knowledge, skills, and abilities statements for the clinical and advanced generalist exams indicates virtually no difference between them. Those practicing independently, regardless of graduate specialization and current practice method, draw on the same requisite knowledge.
