The need for learning disability nurses in primary care settings has been emphasised in several governmental policy drivers for improvement in the care of people with learning disabilities. The inclusion of learning disability nursing students in these settings is an underutilised strategy to not only improve these students' practice experiences, but also to help address the health inequalities experienced by individuals with learning disabilities. However, there is a shortage of primary care placements for these students. Edge Hill University and Sefton Training Hub in north west England collaborated to create the 'Aquarium', a digital visual framework that facilitated the introduction of learning disability nursing students in primary care placements. The framework enabled the sustainable provision of high-quality placements for these students, as well as advancing care provision that supports inclusivity, compassion and excellence for people with learning disabilities.
