Sumario:Our research aims to conduct an in-depth and comprehensive evaluation of the quality of pedagogical design in online teaching within Algerian universities, with a particular focus on the transitional phases between the COVID-19 period and the post-COVID context. The investigation addresses the ways in which teaching practices, learning materials, and course organisation have evolved in response to the constraints and opportunities introduced by the pandemic. The study analyses a corpus of 43 carefully selected learning scenarios for teaching French as a Foreign Language (FLE) at the University of Biskra, published between 2023 and 2024. These scenarios were assessed according to rigorous and clearly defined criteria, including the clarity and consistency of educational objectives, the diversity, accessibility, and pedagogical relevance of resources, the quality, frequency, and structure of online interactions, as well as the robustness and transparency of assessment strategies. A comparative analysis with 45 learning scenarios from 2021 highlights notable progress in several areas. Improvements are particularly visible in the structuring and sequencing of course content, as well as in the integration of both synchronous and asynchronous interaction modes. These modes are further enriched through the application of social learning approaches, which have contributed to greater learner engagement and collaboration. Nevertheless, despite these encouraging developments, persistent shortcomings in the field of instructional engineering remain evident. These deficiencies underline the pressing need for more specialised, sustained, and targeted training programmes designed to strengthen the competencies of educators in online course design. Such measures are essential to ensure the longterm optimisation, quality, and pedagogical effectiveness of distance education in the Algerian higher education system.
